Chicago West Suburban Chapter CPCU
March 2017 Ethics Awareness Effort
Chicago West Suburban Chapter is celebrating Ethics Awareness Month in a big way. We will be conducting an Ethics Awareness Workshop in conjunction with our March 15th Chapter Meeting. Our guest presenter, Joel Davis, CPCU, will present some ethics case study challenges to small groups of our membership during our meeting. The case studies are real examples of challenges faced by insurance agents, underwriters, claim adjusters and others. The groups will elect a spokesperson to read their case study to the rest of our attendees, and then present what solutions their group came up with. Participation is the key, and multiple solutions are accepted and encouraged. Groups will be referring to decision making approaches from the CPCU Society’s “Street-Level Ethics”:
· Situation Based – What is the best possible outcome benefitting most people long term, given these circumstances
· Rule Based – Follow the rules and let the chips fall where they may
· People Based – Follow the Golden Rule, what would you have others do if faced with the same situation.
Our aim is to engage all our attendees in a lively discussion, rather than a lecture. Our case studies are realistic examples of the challenges we face in the insurance industry. This is a group workout for strengthening our ethical muscles, not just for the month of March!
